The precision mold part manufacture is inseparable from advanced processing equipment. The main processes of mold manufacturing include CNC milling, slow wire cutting, EDM, grinding, turning, measurement, automation, etc. This article introduces the advanced equipment and technology of these processes, let's have a look together.

Precision Mold Factory

1.CNC milling

The rapid development of the plastic mold manufacturing industry is mainly due to the innovation of CNC milling technology. From the traditional ordinary milling machine to the three-axis machining center and then to today's five-axis high-speed milling, no matter how complicated the processing of three-dimensional profile parts can become a reality, the hardness of the material is no longer a limitation. The main cavity and profile of the plastic mold are completed by CNC milling.

2. Slow walking wire cutting processing

Slow walking wire cutting is mainly used for the processing of two-dimensional and three-dimensional ruled surface parts such as various punching dies, plastic dies, and powder metallurgy dies. Among them, the proportion of processing stamping dies is the largest. The processing of many precision holes such as the punching die, the punching die fixing plate, the die, and the discharge plate of the punching die, and the slow wire cutting process are indispensable key technologies. In the manufacture of injection molds, common applications include machining of insert holes, thimble holes, oblique top holes, cavity clear angles, and sliders. The processing accuracy requirements are not as high as those of stamping molds.

3. EDM

EDM is suitable for the processing of complex parts such as plastic mold spare parts, narrow slits, grooves and corners. When it is difficult for the tool to reach complex surfaces, where deep cutting is required, and where the aspect ratio is particularly high, EDM is better than milling. For the processing of high-tech parts, milling the electrode and re-discharging can improve the success rate. Compared with the expensive tool cost, EDM is more suitable. In addition, where it is specified that EDM is to be performed, the EDM surface is provided by EDM.

4. Grinding machine processing

Grinders are precision equipment for finishing the surface of parts, especially hardened workpieces. The grinding machines used for mold processing are mainly surface grinding machines, universal internal and external cylindrical grinding machines, and coordinate grinding (PG optical curve grinding machines).

5. CNC lathe

CNC lathes are also commonly used in mold workshops. Its processing range is all rotating body parts. Due to the high development of numerical control technology, complex-shaped rotating bodies can be easily realized by programming, and the machine tool can automatically change tools, which greatly improves production efficiency. The machining accuracy and manufacturing technology of CNC lathes are becoming more and more perfect, and there is even a tendency to replace grinding with a car. It is often used to process round inserts, support heads, positioning rings and other parts in molds. It is widely used in pen molds and bottle mouth molds. In fact, the functions of advanced CNC lathes are no longer limited to “turning” and have been expanded into turning and milling integrated machine tools. A complex, multi-process part can be processed all at once.
