In the construction industries, there are various tools used to achieve variety of lovely results, one of which is the die tool. The die tool is mostly used to cut out into shape a material by using a press. Die tools are also like molds because they are customized basically like the items that they are used to create.

The kind of products made with dies range from very simple paper clips to the much complex pieces used in other higher technological advancement. One can say the die tool is an artistic revolution in the manufacturing industry because most pressworking fabrications requires at all times these tools to get the work done in the mass production of solid objects.

There are so far three (3) major kinds of the die tool that is prevalent in the manufacturing industry.

The Steel-rule die

This particular die tool also known as cookie cutter dies and is preferably used to cut metal sheet and materials that are softer such as the plastics, can be used for woods, corks, felts, paperboards and even fabrics. Its name steel rule comes from the cutting surface which is at the edge of hardened steel strips. One of the major advantages of the steel rule dies in the manufacturing company is the low cost of manufacturing them, compared to solid dies, but since they are not as robust as solid dies, they are used for seemingly short production runs.

The Rotary die

This die is a versatile one, it can be used in many fields of manufacturing including the roll forming process. Their own name rotary is due to the fact that they possess a cylindrical shape and are also used to make soft materials like the cardboard and paper. The major breakthrough of rotary dies in the manufacturing industry is their productivity, they are pretty much faster to use.

Wire making dies

These dies take a different shape all together, this time, they have a hole through them through which a wire, rod or alloys with a pointed leading tip can pass through usually from one side, lubricated and then eventually reduced in size. The tip of the wire which is guided into the die is rolled onto a block which provides power to draw the wire through the die, this is usually done on the opposite sides.

The wire making dies are quite complex because they have many sections. The entrance, the approach angle that helps to facilitate reduction and the bearing and back relief. Interestingly in the production process, the wire never comes in contact with the die through the help of lubrications added at the entrance angle.
