What affects the CNC machining speed?

There are a variety of effective processes for making metal parts. The two most popular processes for industrial purposes are the CNC machining and die casting. Also, there are others used to remove material on the part you want to machine with milling cutters using a milling machine or router. The later corresponds to the different types of finishing, for example 3D machining, milling cutters, V-shaped milling cutters, flat-end straight milling cutters, flat end milling cutters, hemispherical end milling cutters, etc.

Some cutters are made of a fairly basic hard steel (HSS), others are made of Tungsten carbide (Carbide or Solid Carbide), others are coated with a coating that considerably increases the hardness and durability of your cutter and can allow to machine very hard materials (steel for example) by optimizing the cooling.

Now, the type of CNC technology you will use for machining the die components will determine the finish you will get. Also, the cutting speed (how much material can be removed by rotating the milling cutter), which involves the rotational speed of the tool and other factors play vital roles in determining the finish and product shape you are likely to achieve. But there are some factors which directly or indirectly affect the speed of the CNC machining tool. Let’s take a quick look at them;

But first, we need to understand that the speed of the CNC machining is the distance in a unit of time.

The choice of cutting speeds depends on the following factors:

• The nature of the material to be machined: Generally, the softer the material to be machined, the higher the speed of the machine.

• The nature of the material of the cutting tool. This is also very important when making your choice of the CNC machining equipment.

• The kind of machining: This refers to the type of machining activity you want to engage in whether roughing, finishing, turning, threading and so on.

• Depth of pass: The greater the amount of material is less the cutting speed is great.

• The shape of the workpiece and its attachment, and the clamping of the cutting tool: The rigidity of the mounting of the cutting tool as well as the tightness of the workpiece (take into account the shape for reasons of deformation) have an influence on cutting speeds.

• Lubricant: Abundant lubrication increases cutting speed.

• Machine type: Robust machine can withstand higher cutting speeds compared to a lighter machine.

Also, it can be a bit difficult, for a beginner to navigate and choose the right pack of strawberries to use his machine on a daily basis.

For those who are new to CNC as well as other prototyping machines, we propose here a synthetic and accessible description to allow you to see more clearly, and to understand what kind of strawberry is adapted to your needs, depending on the workpiece / cut.

The cutters (for machining) are different from the drills (drill bits) that they use to drill. However, the different drills of drilling can also be used for work on CNC (for example for the holes in the realization of a circuit).
